VCSO: Veterans County Service Officer

Harry Fontenot is the
Veterans Service Officer
for Van Zandt County

(903) 567-7985 or (903) 567-0554

The VCSO office is located at the Veterans Memorial Building at 1200 S. Trade Days Blvd. (Directly behind the Veterans Memorial Plaza).

Harry Fontenot, retired from the Air Force, is the local Veterans Service Officer available to help all veterans and their families in Van Zandt County.

Services offered include helping veterans with injury and pension claims, educational needs, health benefits, VA home loans, and land loans.

His office can also help with obtaining a veterans DD214 forms, military medical records, if available, and can refer other services for help in retaining medals like a Purple Heart or other service medals for a veteran.

There are approximately 5,000 veterans in Van Zandt County and according to Fontenot, his biggest challenge is letting local veterans know his office is available to them.

The number one request coming to his office is helping veterans with claims, mostly service connected. Many of them are Viet Nam vets requesting help with claims from Agent Orange, a chemical used to spray defoliants in the jungles of Southeast Asia.

Office hours are currently Tuesday – Thursday 10:00 am. – 4:00 p.m.
