Ship Anchor

ANCHOR ON VETERANS PLAZA

Ken Thompson, USMC veteran from Canton, Texas bought the anchor that is displayed on the Memorial Plaza. Then it was bought from the Government Liquidations auction in Oklahoma City. They had a contract to do away with all their surplus. Thompson told Red Montgomery and others about it. He paid $5,907. and it came from a salvage company. The heavy anchor weigh in at about 20,000 lbs.

Bob’s brother, John English went up and hauled the anchor back to Canton. Although it is a real anchor, it was never on a Navy ship.

There is a visible name on the anchor Baldt, from Chester, Pennsylvania. That company went out of business and was bought by the Lister Chain Company out of Blaine, Washington. (We will continue to research the origin of this anchor )
