Ron Carroll: Chairman
I Served in the U.S Airforce from 1965 to 1969. Served 4 years and then served 10 years in the Air Force reserve. I was with Fire Dept/ rescue. I served at Carswell A.F.B., Viet Nam 1966-67. Nevada, Washington state, Georgia, Florida and California. I retired from Law Enforcement with 35 yrs. and also retired from Van County as County commissioner for 12 yrs. my military rank was M.Sgt. E-7. Ron is currently a cattle rancher in Canton.
Dan Maucieri: Treasurer
Dan Maucieri served in the Air Force in various roles of Aircraft Maintenance in many locations throughout the United States and overseas locations. He retired in 2015 after 30 years of service and moved to Van Zandt County where he is a hobby farmer, community volunteer and works as the County Human Resources Director. Dan and his wife Lynn raised five daughters who come visit often and bring their ten grandkids to enjoy their home in the Country. Dan serves as our Treasurer
Phil Smith: Public Relations Director
Phil Smith volunteered as the Public Relations Director at the Van Zandt County Veterans Memorial in the Fall of 2018. Phil, a Navy veteran, served as a supply officer in Ground Support at Fighter Squadron VA-203 ( A-4, A-7’s) in Jacksonville, Florida. Using the GI bill, he graduated from the University of Florida, Gainesville in 1977 with a Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Journalism and Television Broadcasting. Owned Corporate Video Production Company for 37 years. Phil is currently retired in Canton.
Bob Borth: Director
I spent twenty years in the U.S. Air Force as an Intel Traffic Analysist. The USAFSS was a secretive and tight-knit branch of the Air Force cold warriors tasked with monitoring, collecting and interpreting military voice and electronic signals of countries of interest which often were Soviet and their satellite Eastern bloc countries.

Cary Hilliard: Director
I grew up here in Canton and after college graduation volunteered for USAF. After 4 years in AF I was given a vision medical waiver and went to Undergraduate Pilot Training and then flew C-130 aircraft in worldwide tactical missions. In my last 6 years I moved into the “classified black world” and finished my 23-year career as a unit commander at Eglin AFB, Fl. After moving back to Canton in 1993, I became involved in local politics as a county commissioner, city council member and mayor of Canton. My hobbies are working on our farm and volunteering in important nonprofit organizations
Pete Guinn: Trustee
Tim Pennington: Trustee
Tim Pennington served in both the U.S. Air Force and the Army. After receiving his top-secret clearance, Tim joined the White House Communications and worked under the Bill Clinton Administration. On 9-11 Tim was working in an office in Potomac across from the Pentagon. Shortly after he was assigned to WH Communications under the George W. Bush Administration in Crawford, Texas. He spent time in Iraq, Bahrain, Kuwait and Afghanistan. Tim was medically discharged and lives with his wife Andra and family in Canton.
Dan Curtis: Trustee
Dan is a 29-year retired Army Veteran. He coordinated the Honor Flights from Kansas City and Utah to Washington D.C. spent time as an Army reserve Engineer for 53 countries. Has 53 decorations including 2 Bronze Stars. Voted “BEST ENGINEERING SOLDIER” among U.S. and Allied Nations Military Engineers. Lives in Canton
Michelle Smith: Secretary
Michelle joined the Board in October 2019. She graduated from Our Lady of the Lake University with BS degree in Marketing. She has been an Executive Assistant for several companies including GTE, Verizon, Research in Motion ( Blackberry ), and University of Dallas. She is married to Phil Smith and retired in 2017 in Canton.
